“Dr. Matt and the whole staff at Stone Ridge Dental are absolutely fantastic. I have a lot of anxiety about going to the dentist because of past experiences with oral surgery and they sent above and beyond to earn my trust. Their sedation process was fantastic. ” –Josh H.

What is Sedation Dentistry?

Dr. Smith is one of a limited number of general dentists that offer IV sedation and can complete most or all of your dentistry, including dental implants, while you are sedated. Due to the relaxing effects of the medication, patients must have a friend or family member bring them to the dental office and return them home.

Intravenous or IV sedation is offered to patients feeling anxious or afraid of their treatment and to our young patients as well. Sedation is an effective management technique that uses medications to assist the patient in coping with fear and anxiety. IV sedation is both safe and effective when administered by our trained professionals.
Oral sedation dentistry is now the most common technique used in the United States to quell patient fears. It makes use of a prescription medication that induces a drowsy, relaxed feeling. We administer this medication orally (no needles!)

Reduce Anxiety
Sedation is an effective way to reduce anxiety and make the appointment feel like it’s flying by.

Save Money
Longer single appointments and decreased need for costly anesthesia save you money.

Save Time
Previously time-consuming procedures can be completed in one appointment.

Patients can confuse sedation with pain relief. At Dr. Matt Smith’s office, our patients don’t feel a thing during any procedures due to our anesthetics. Dr. Smith offers sedation, not for pain, but to help patients deal with intense feelings of fear and anxiety that arise when they visit the dentist. After receiving sedation and completing their treatments, patients often experience a change in the entire way they view dental appointments in the future.
Quotes

This was my first visit to Dr. Matt. Everything has been so easy! I was able to fill out the forms online before I arrived but when I did arrive in the office, every single person took time to get to know me and understand the info I submitted online. Everyone was warm and professional and friendly while they provided me with excellent care- X rays, photos, cleaning, exam and treatment plan. -Kerry O.

The purpose of Sedation Dentistry is to remove any fear of discomfort, pain, or anxiety from your treatment experience. Most patients tell us they felt absolutely no pain or discomfort during their procedures and may express that they feel great immediately afterward.
Many patients do not remember much of their procedure after the sedatives wear off. Some patients may even experience a bit of “retroactive” amnesia and be unable to recall arriving at the office for their appointment. Less commonly, patients may experience mild headaches, nausea, and sometimes a bit of “jet lag” once the sedatives have worn off.
Our office will monitor you for a period immediately following your procedure to ensure the sedatives are wearing off as expected and that there are no complications following your treatment. As a general rule, we will provide written copies of any post-care instructions if you experience any memory problems. In addition, patients should avoid driving a vehicle or operating heavy machinery for 24 hours after sedation.
Yes, we require that you have someone else drive you to and from your appointment. Think of it as trading a bit of inconvenience getting here and back for the ability to sleep comfortably through your dental treatment.
Our knowledgeable team will work with you to see if your insurance company will cover your sedation needs. If you’re not covered by insurance, we can work with you to develop an affordable financial plan. Our patients often tell us that it’s worth the investment to purchase sedation dentistry.
Yes, ask our office about financing options or payment plans. CareCredit® offers reasonable interest rates for patients who need to finance their dental care.
